Traditional travel document holders focus on lightweight materials, waterproofing, or slot arrangements. However, the Portapass takes a different approach. Recognizing the limitations of boarding passes, which are often longer than passports and cannot fit in pockets, the designers at Quadrato came up with a groundbreaking design that folds on both the X and Y axes.
The Portapass features an iconic two-directional closure with brass buttons, providing double relief for secure storage of valuable belongings. Made from vegetable-tanned leather, this wallet offers flexibility and durability. The designers have utilized the natural characteristics of the leather to create a compact yet spacious design that can hold rectangular tickets without creasing them.
Using a combination of vegetable-tanned leather and Serafil nylon thread, the Portapass ensures sustainability and high tolerance for intensive long-term usage. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of this design, from the precise stitching to the carefully selected materials.
When closed, the Portapass measures 100mm in width, 150mm in depth, and 12mm in height. When opened, it expands to 205mm in width, 225mm in depth, and 5mm in height. This compact yet versatile size makes it the perfect companion for any traveler.
Operating the Portapass is simple and intuitive. The vertical direction is opened first, followed by the parallel direction. The press buttons are strategically positioned for both right-handed and left-handed users. The slot designed for boarding passes can accommodate tickets up to 215mm in length, making it suitable for folded A4-sized tickets as well.
The Portapass project began in September 2018 in Firenze and was completed in March 2019. The designers conducted extensive research to address the common problems faced by travelers, such as misplaced boarding passes and creased tickets. The result is a meticulously crafted product that combines functionality, elegance, and efficiency.
Recognizing its excellence, the Portapass was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories category in 2019. This prestigious award is a testament to the Portapass' practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements.
With its unique design, superior craftsmanship, and attention to detail, the Portapass is the ultimate travelling wallet for the modern globetrotter. Say goodbye to misplaced boarding passes and creased tickets, and say hello to convenience, security, and style.
